Graduate Assistantships for MAST Students

Kennesaw’s Graduate College and the M.A. in American Studies offer funding to qualified students in the form of Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAs), Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs), and Graduate Professional Assistantships on a competitive basis. These assistantships are learning opportunities for graduate students, supporting professionalism in the context of the program while also providing financial support.

There are three types of assistantships. Graduate Research Assistants work with a faculty member to support their research agenda while giving the student an opportunity to receive individual mentorship from a professor whose expertise reflects their own interests. Graduate Teaching Assistants support a faculty member in their undergraduate teaching, which gives the GTA an opportunity to practice their teaching skills under the guidance of a professor in fields including American Studies, Gender and Women’s Studies, and Black Studies. Graduate students who have completed 18 hours of graduate credit in American Studies are also eligible to serve as instructor-of-record in General Education classes. Graduate Professional Assistants support professors working on professional projects such as organizing academic conferences.

GRA, GTA, and GPA appointments are awarded for either one or two semesters to qualified students. GRAs, GTAs, and GPAs will work with the assigned Graduate Faculty Project Supervisor for 10 hours per week. In exchange, they will receive a tuition waiver for six credit hours per semester and a monthly stipend of $600. A graduate assistant may not be employed in any other position on the аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ campus, nor can they hold more than one graduate assistantship position in one semester. For details on stipends, tuition waivers, and other information about Kennesaw’s Graduate Assistant hiring policies, see the . Students may apply to the graduate assistantship program only after they have been accepted into the Graduate Program in American Studies. These positions are found on .
